2. DESCRIPTION & APPLICATION

Description: Joistrip is an extruded EPDM rubber flashing specifically designed to protect the top edge of floor joists, bearers and beams on timber decks and verandahs. It also protects the top edge of exposed pergola rafters and beams.

Dimensions:
THICKNESS OF MEMBER JOISTRIP

  • 45mm – 54mm Joist profile (50m, 25m, 10m rolls).
  • 55mm – 75mm Joist profile with both legs removed.
  • 63mm – 70mm AVAILABLE Bearer profile (15m roll).
  • 71mm – 80mm SOON! Bearer profile with both legs removed.

TEMPERATURE LIMITS: -40'c to 80'c

Purpose: Joistrip rubber flashing is a moisture barrier which stops water penetrating the top
of exterior structural members, preventing rot. Joistrip provides a watertight seal around the penetration of decking nails and screws.

Application: Joistrip is designed for the protection of: beams, bearers, joists and rafters of
exterior structures exposed to the elements, including;

  • Entertaining Decks
  • Swimming Pool decks
  • Verandahs
  • Stair Landings
  • Garage & Carport Decks
  • Pergolas

Joistrip is a very versatile product which offers the installer many options to achieve
maximum protection of structural members when faced with varying construction methods.

3. OVERLAPS

An “OVERLAP” is where the end of one flashing is placed underneath the wing of a
second flashing at a junction of two structural members; i.e. where a floor joist butts
into a pole plate or beam and are fixed together finishing at the same height.

To seal the overlap, a suitable construction adhesive/sealant must be applied between
the two flashings. The correct amount of adhesive/sealant is where the entire overlap of
the flashings is bonded without excess. The adhesive/sealant should be applied just before
laying the decking board over the top.

ADHESIVE / SEALANT

Recommended: FULLER FULAPRENE 303 Adhesive Sealant.
• Seals water and air tight.
• One part, ready to use.
• Paintable
• Resistant to salt and chlorinated water.
• Interior / Exterior
• Withstands temperatures between 0'c and 80'c

NOTE: If a suitable adhesive/sealant is not available to withstand temperatures that
exceed the above, where possible it is recommended a structure be built using a
construction method that eliminates “junctions” of structural members, e.g. floor joists to be
fixed on top of all bearers, beams etc. This method allows Joistrip flashing to overhang or be
folded down the joist ends to waterproof.
